Let’s get a back pack! what do you fancy? Dinosaurs or paw patrol? Maybe you’re too grown up for paw patrol now? I think the big green T rex will be your first choice.
Let’s remember a change of clothes! You’re sure to get messy playing in the mud kitchen and sliding down the grassy hill in the garden. That’s ok, a messy shirt shows a great day, I’ll add it to the washing pile.
Let’s have a big special breakfast! Would you like your bagel toasted with butter now of just like one big plain doughnut like usual? I’m going to get you coco pops too, you’ll love to drink the chocolaty milk.
Let’s see that big smile! I need that first day of nursery picture to put on the wall, one day it will be compared to the last day of school picture. You will have grown so tall, and super handsome.
Let’s have a big hug! Your teachers are so kind, they’ll take of you. Your friends are going to love playing with you, who wouldn’t? You’re so so fun. Oh and guess what…there’s even a teddy bear you might get to take home one weekend, how exciting.
See you at 3pm? We could go home and watch spidey while you tell me all about your day and your new friends while you drink more chocolate milk and probably another bagel.
But I won’t see you at 3pm will I?
I cant just go and pick you up all grubby faced and sparkly eyes. I can’t go and get you and take you home.
You should be starting nursery next week, you should be, but you are not.
And while I wish I could say all those things to you and take all the smiling first day pictures I can’t, and that breaks my heart. So instead I guess I’ll just be here, loving you -as always -and being as proud of you as I would be if you were walking through the nursery gates on your very first day. 💗
And to any mums and dads who’s little ones are starting school or nursery (especially Albie’s little buddies we met through his very favorites moo music and baby sensory and his forever bestie Hunter) know that I am so excited and happy for your children, and you!
My pain does not take away my joy for you. It’s always nice to see smiling pictures.
So on their first day, do me a favor, give them a hug from me…and from Albie too.
