Sorry I couldn’t send you flowers.

Instead I made everyone pancakes.

I think you’d like it made them smile.

Sorry I couldn’t buy you chocolates.

Instead I helped a lady with her wobbly trolly at the shop.

I think you’d like it made things easier for her.

Sorry I couldn’t write you a card. 

Instead I tried extra hard at work to do a little good.

I think you’d like to see me try.

Sorry I couldn’t shower you with my kisses.

Instead I read 3 extra stories at bedtime.

I think you’d like to watch their dreamy eyes close.

Sorry I couldn’t do all that. 

But mainly I’m sorry I can’t tell you ‘I love you’. 

Although now I think of it – all those things – they’re just different ways of saying it. Different ways of showing it.

See you have changed me. I’m full up of all this care that should be yours, it surely can’t just go to waste. 

It took you a short time of being here but you changed my whole meaning of being. 

‘Because I knew you, I have been changed for good’
